WWI Commemorative event (October 2014)

Organised by the Royal British Legion to remember those from the villages of Bluntisham and Earith who served during the First World War, and to raise funds for the 2014 Poppy Appeal.  Featuring BaCStage, the Meridian Singers and an exhibition by the Royal British Legion.

In October 2014 we were honoured to take part in a commemorative event organised by the Royal British Legion, to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War 1.  We performed a one-act play “Hero”, by Michael Lynch, plus readings of “Dulce et Decorum Est” (Wilfred Owen), “Naming of Parts” (Henry Reed) and a selection of accounts from those involved in the Great War.

We were one of three main contributors to the event.  The Meridian Singers performed a mixture of contemporary numbers and British patriotic songs.  The Royal British Legion, in addition to organising the event, presented an impressive exhibition on the war and lives of the local people who served in it.

The event was a resounding success, playing to a full house on both nights and raising over £1400 for the Poppy Appeal.

Michael Williamson, Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, was guest speaker on the second night and afterwards sent his congratulations to all involved:

Thankyou

The Parish Council also offered their congratulations:

Thankyou_ParishCouncil

The British Legion themselves sent this letter of thanks to us and the Meridian Singers:

Thank You

It was an event that we were proud to be a part of and we’re delighted that it was so successful and well-received.
